The thing that’s great about being a costume designer
is you never know what’s going to be next; you never know what world you are going to enter.
Anna Iurtaeva is an American costume designer for film and television whose work is defined by cinematic elegance, narrative depth, and a singular sense of luxury. Known for her ability to shape unforgettable visual identities, she brings a refined and emotionally intelligent approach to character through costume, with particular expertise in film drama, sci-fi, thriller, and action.
Born in Magadan, Russia, Anna’s artistic vision emerged at an early age. As a child, she transformed pieces from her father’s wardrobe into imaginative clothing and accessories, revealing an instinctive gift for reinvention, silhouette, and beauty. Encouraged by her parents, she pursued that creative instinct with purpose and turned it into a life in design.
In 2005, Anna moved to New York to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she refined her mastery of fabric draping, couture technique, and silhouette development. It was there that she began to define the signature aesthetic that continues to distinguish her work — sophisticated, evocative, and deeply attuned to storytelling.
In 2009, she founded the Vera De Nero workshop, named in honor of her mother, in New York’s historic Garment District, where it remains based today. From this atelier, Anna continues to create costumes that merge craftsmanship, atmosphere, and narrative power, bringing depth and distinction to every world she helps build.
